I have always stitched and played with cloth, wrapping myself in fabrics, sorting buttons and threads in my mum’s sewing room since I was a small child. I also collect many different things, from feathers, bones and pottery to sea glass, shells and flowers. I find objects on roads and in fields, vintage materials from car boot sales, quilt and patchwork pieces and old threads. These things fascinate me, inform and enhance my practice.
I use old textiles and am intrigued by the wear and tear of fabrics and the marks, stains and narratives they present. Most of my work involves fragmentation followed by reconstruction and repair using techniques inspired by kantha and Japanese Boro; layering scraps of worn, pre-used fabrics with hand stitch.
I like to colour fabrics and threads using Eco dye techniques.
