Inspiration for my work comes from a variety of sources within the natural and built environment. I am fascinated by the way in which basic utility stitches cross time, place and culture and resurface in many creative forms from Indian kantha to Japanese boro back to traditional English quilts. This directly influences my working methods and I employ simple hand stitching techniques using mainly recycled natural fibre fabrics and threads wherever possible. I like the feel and handle this brings to my work. Drawing is very important to me. It acts as a starting point as well as a catalyst and almost always underpins my subsequent textile outcomes.
